Raleigh charity golf event honors Grayson Murray, raises mental health awareness :: WRAL.com

A golf tournament and dinner in Raleigh on Monday will raise awareness and funds for mental health in memory of Grayson Murray, a local professional golfer who died in 2024.

The Grayson Murray Classic will be held on Monday, Oct. 6, beginning with a golf tournament at Raleigh Country Club and ending with a dinner and gala at North Ridge Country Club.

Murray, a two-time PGA Tour winner, died by suicide in May 2024. He was 30 years old.

Before his death, Murray had been vocal about his struggles with depression and mental health.

Murray’s parents have since launched the Grayson Murray Foundation to
carry forward his mission to “help the ones that want to be helped but might not
have the support they need financially,” which the golfer wrote before his death.

All proceeds from the tournament will go toward his mission.

“Grayson
inspired so many by being open about his personal mental health challenges
during his professional golf career. Now, through the Grayson Murray
Foundation, we will continue to share Grayson’s story to help destigmatize the
conversation on mental health topics in our society,” said Jeff Maness, president of the Grayson Murray Foundation.

Well-known golfers and other celebrities will be at the tournament, including Brooks Koepka, a two-time winner of the U.S. Open and three-time winner of the PGA Championship, and golf professionals Jason Gore, Stephan Jaeger, ,Richy Werenski and Jason Kokrak.

Other star athletes will attend, including former NFL players and North Carolina State University alumni Koren Robinson and Mike Glennon and Carolina Hurricanes players Erik Cole, Justin Williams and Cam Ward.

Country
singer George Birge, a former golfer, will perform live throughout the event.
